Processed Dog Foods
Incomplete For Your Dog

Processed dog foods are just that, processed. I know I’ve touched the subject of dry processed food on the Dry Dog Foods So many people I see feed nothing but processed foods.

Dr. Francis M. Pottenger's nutritional studies have shown that a regular diet of cooked or canned foods causes the development of chronic degenerative diseases and premature mortality.

Our pets have not adapted and/or evolved to cooked foods. The processed dog foods are void of live enzymes and amino acids. The heart of the digestive system is being compromised. When this happens, cancers form, degenerative type diseases follow and a dogs health diminishes.

Processed dog food in a can is sterile. The good live stuff dogs are supposed to have has been destroyed by heat. The only good thing about canned food is that it is a good high moisture food. Moisture in the dogs food is another critical factor. This helps nourish the organs at a cellular level.

I prefer seeing people feed more canned than dry food for this reason. As well as it is a better source of protein versus extremely processed dry food. It’s much easier for the dog to digest canned as well.

I will occasionally get a comment like, “I can’t afford to feed my large dog on just canned food.” That is a very valid comment. A lot of people can’t afford to give their dog the proper diet.

What you can do by your current means is all you can do. At the same point if you’re open minded and are willing to ask for tips, we can usually provide some helpful information. Such as, if you can at least introduce one meal of raw food a week, it will go a long ways to better health. That one meal will at least help to replenish some of the enzymes that are being lost to digesting the processed foods.

This is frustrating, when we try explaining how to give better health for their dogs, they just shut us out. We will get comments like, “well my last dog lived clear to 9 years old. His old age made his kidneys give out.” I try gently to explain that he could have lived many, many more years and that his kidney failure was probably due to being on nothing but dry. Usually this is to no avail and they continue on as they always have.

Newer forms of processed dog food are coming to market. You can find some store carrying refrigerated dog foods. These are what they call “lightly processed” dog foods. I do believe they are better than canned as they are not cooked near as much. Some brands found in grocery market have some filler in them. You can usually find a better grade of this type product in a natural dog food store.

This type of food is convenient. It doesn’t last as long as a can of dog food but is a better choice. They usually come in a variety of sizes so you can pick up a 1lb package now and then for a good meal.

Processed dog food is going to be around for a long time. It’s almost as convenient as dry food but a little more expensive. But a lot of people are learning the value and benefit of feeding these products. The dogs like them better, they are healthier than dry and it makes the people feel better.

If you can keep a balance of 50% dry with 50% moist foods, we find that to be a pretty good ratio. This will help subsidize with dry foods and yet get a good portion of moist type foods.

Adding processed dog food to your regular feeding schedule can safely and easily be done with little effort and great rewards. Just remember to feed some raw and/or supplement with enzymes occasionally.

DO NOT forget about probiotics. Another missing element in our cooked processed dog foods. Supplementation of probiotics is critical for a good healthy digestive system. You digestive tract is the heart of your immune system.
